Inspection of geometry and wall thickness (VBT-LS / VBT-63-BT5)
The VBT-serie balloon geometry testing equipment is designed for a fast measurement of balloon profiles of inflated balloons. The VBT tooling is equiped with a sophisticated vision system using a large field of view (63 mm) using a telecentric measuring lens. The VBT-LS version has been fitted with a linescanning system. It can measure balloons upto 150 mm A lighting module provides an evenly distributed amount of light for the vision system to perform accurate measurements of the the balloon transition points and diameter. The tool is controlled by a PC. The user interface is easy to understand and makes it possible to generate your own test programs. All the balloon geometry specifications are stored in a data file. The inflation pressure (1 to 30) for the balloons can be programmed using a macro-language. With this languages a test program can be composed with delays, pressure steps and measuring points. The tool will register the actual pressure when taking a measurement. All measurement data can be stored, and reports can be generated per lotnumber.

The VBT-LS tooling is equiped with a sophisticated vision system using a line scanning camera system (180-200 mm FOV). It also has a sensor probe for measuring the wall thickness of the balloons without contact (single and multi layer). The geometry information of the balloon that is measured with the vision system is used for positioning the wall thickness measuring probe. Positioning takes place fully automatic with a XYZ servo system. Optionally the tool can be fitted with a product rotation system that allows for 360 degrees balloon inspection. There are two modules available (finished product with hub connector or balloon component) Measurements are very accurate and repeatable (aprox. 0.0005 mm). The tool is controlled by a PC. The user interface is easy to understand and makes it possible to generate your own test programs. All the balloon geometry specifications are stored in a data files and can be exported to Excel. MPT Europe BV has developed a radial stent force measurement system. The system uses the stent crimping head technology developed by MPT Europe and is capable of measuring with very high accuracy the radial force versus diameter relation of stents while being underwater in a 37 degrees Celsius waterbath. The technology can be used for temperature sensitive Nitinol stents and also for biodegradable stents. The system can also be used for conventional stents.
